10 Fun and Effective Ways To Get Your First Collaborative Law Case

Ready to dive into Collaborative Law but wondering how to find that first case? Here are some strategies that have worked well for other Collaborative professionals:

1. Show it off on your website. Make “Collaborative Law” the Beyoncé of your site—front and center. Explain its benefits in plain language that makes clients go, “Yes, I want that!”

2. Steal (inspiration) from others. Check out how seasoned Collaborative pros describe their services online. Then put your unique spin on it.

3. Make it part of every consult. When meeting new clients, walk them through *all* the divorce options. Use KCCL’s Conflict Resolutions Options diagram. Visuals make the options easier to understand.

4. Get social. Share posts about Collaborative Law on your social media. Whether it’s tips, memes, or your favorite co-parenting books, keep it upbeat and relatable.

5. Be a podcast guest star. Find podcasts focused on family law, relationships, or big life changes. Pitch your Collaborative know-how and charm a whole new audience.

6. Take the stage. Speak at Second Saturday events, libraries, or workshops for realtors or therapists. They’re working every day with people going through divorce.

7. Team up. Partner with therapists, CDFAs, or other attorneys to offer public education on divorce. Contribute an article for their newsletter or do an interview on their YouTube channel.

8. Join KCCL’s Reduced Fee Program. Help clients who want a collaborative divorce but have limited means. Learn more and sign up here.

9. Share your story. Blog about why you chose collaborative law. People connect with passion—show them why this process lights you up. Share your blog post on KCCL’s blog too!

10. Meet those active in Collaborative. Join KCCL! Attend KCCL events and meetings. Volunteer on a committee. Suggest a CLE. Networking = referrals, and referrals = your first case!

Start with one or two of these, and soon enough, you’ll be celebrating your first collaborative success story. 🎉
